Taken on April 30, 1929, this picture shows Herbert Hoover with a group of business paper editors, less than two months after he took office as the 31st president. The National Photo Company, a Washington firm that documented officials and public events from the 1910s through the 1930s, made the image on a small glass negative. The record notes that streaks and other blemishes likely come from natural deterioration of the original coatings, so faint marks may cross the picture. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
