Where most wartime posters celebrated soldiers, this lithograph honors a single woman: Edith Cavell, the British nurse who ran a training school in Brussels and was executed by a German firing squad in October 1915 for helping Allied soldiers leave occupied Belgium. The poster announces a public demonstration at the Palais du Trocadéro, organized by the League of the Rights of Man to raise money for the French Red Cross. Its vivid orange ground makes the notice hard to miss on a street wall, and the French title shows how the event was pitched to Parisian audiences.
