A lithograph dated February 1916 advertises a grand artistic matinée at the Salle du Trocadéro in honor of Louis Raemaekers, the Dutch cartoonist whose sharp drawings criticizing German conduct in the war circulated widely in Allied countries. Maurice Neumont signed the design, and the inscription on the stone reads "A un ami de la France," or "To a friend of France," a dedication to Raemaekers. Posters like this one show how Paris honored foreign artists whose work supported the Allied cause, and the event's artistic program reflects the wartime effort to rally public opinion.
