Dated March 5, 1921, the day after Warren G. Harding was inaugurated as president, this view shows visitors at the White House in the opening days of a new administration. The National Photo Company, a Washington firm that documented the capital in the early twentieth century, made the negative on glass, a format prized for its sharp detail. The title comes from data the company supplied and has not been independently verified, so the people shown remain unidentified. Streaks and blemishes across the plate come from deterioration in the original coatings and are worth noticing as signs of the negative's age.
