Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, newly married that March, are pictured on their June 1920 visit to the White House. Pickford and Fairbanks were among the most recognizable faces in American film, and their celebrity made any appearance in Washington a public event. Portraits like this one show how the couple, often called "America's sweethearts," moved between Hollywood stardom and official Washington during the early years of the movie industry.
