Inside the White House, this glass negative records a room in the Executive Office, which sets it apart from the exterior views that dominate this board. The National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio that documented the capital's government buildings and public life, likely made it between 1918 and 1921, late in Woodrow Wilson's presidency. The plate is a 5 by 7 inch glass negative, and its streaks and blemishes come from the natural breakdown of the original coatings, so they are worth keeping in mind when judging the image.
