Christina Stevens's interior view of the Hoosick White House Bridge records the wooden framework inside a covered span at North Hoosick, New York. Covered bridges like this one were roofed and sided to shield their timber trusses and deck from rain and snow, so their interiors read as a lattice of beams and diagonal braces. By the early 1930s many of these bridges were aging, and photographers and local historians were beginning to document them as examples of rural craftsmanship. The print was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, which left an official record of the image's creation.
