Unlike the many White House views on this board, this glass negative is titled for the Executive Office, the cluster of offices where the president's staff worked alongside the mansion. In the 1920s much of that work took place in the State, War, and Navy Building next to the White House, a granite landmark finished in 1888. The National Photo Company made thousands of such views of Washington during the early twentieth century, and the record dates this one to about 1923. The title is unverified, so the exact building shown should be confirmed. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the deterioration of its original coating.
