Few pictures on this board show a delegation on the White House grounds quite like this one, a group of farmers photographed there on April 21, 1921. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded visitors and officials across the capital, made the image on a glass negative, a format that captured sharp detail but was fragile over time. That fragility shows here, where streaks and blemishes mark the natural breakdown of the original coatings. The visit came about seven weeks after Warren G. Harding took office, when falling farm prices and rural debt were pressing concerns in Washington.
