A meeting between President Warren G. Harding and a group of Native American visitors is the subject of this glass negative, made at the White House on November 16, 1921, early in his administration. Library of Congress staff devised the title, so the record does not name the individuals in the group, though delegations like this often traveled to Washington to press questions about land, treaties and federal policy. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented officials and visitors in the capital during the 1910s and 1920s, made the negative. Look for the streaks and small blemishes on the glass, which come from the natural breakdown of its original coatings.
