Only twelve days after his inauguration as the 29th president, Warren G. Harding stands with a group outside the White House in this view dated March 16, 1921. The date comes from notes on the negative sleeve and has not been independently verified, but it fits the first weeks of his administration. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented official life and visitors in the capital during the 1910s and 1920s, made the picture on glass. Faint streaks and blemishes on the negative come from deterioration in its original coating, not from the scene itself.
