Naval officer Mark L. Bristol appears in this 1928 photograph by Bain News Service, the New York agency whose staff supplied newspapers with pictures of public figures. Bristol had spent much of his career in the Navy's Near East and Asian commands, and he served as U.S. High Commissioner to Turkey after the First World War. By 1928 he was a senior flag officer whose postings kept him in the news. The identification and date come from old caption cards and have not been independently verified, so they should be read with that in mind.
