This lithograph is a recruiting call from Pennsylvania rather than a federal one, and its text asks single men aged 18 to 40 who were not in war-essential jobs to join before June 30, with the state asked to supply 7,000 of the 70,000 men sought for new infantry and field artillery regiments of the regular Army. It was issued by the Committee of Public Safety for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from its Department of Military Service in Philadelphia. Posters like this appeared after the United States entered the First World War in April 1917, when the Army needed to expand quickly and states helped with recruitment alongside federal efforts.
