Few recruiting posters from the First World War promised technical training as openly as this one, which offers young men instruction in telegraph, telephone, and radio work with the Signal Corps. The Army needed such skills as wireless and field communication grew in importance during the war, and posters like this one directed prospective recruits to a local recruiting office and bore the name of Major Harry S. Mueller of the Infantry. The artist, Josef Rudolf Witzel, is credited in the record, and the color halftone process let the design reach a wide public through inexpensive printed copies.
