Few recruiting posters of the period give a street address as plainly as this one, which directs readers to 25 Third Avenue in New York, where the office was open day and night. Its slogan promises that Army service would build a strong body and train the mind to disciplined decision, a pitch aimed at young men weighing their futures. Printed in an edition of 100,000 and dated April 24, 1916, it appeared while the United States was still neutral in the European war but was already expanding its armed forces. The short command "Enlist!" reflects how the Army sought volunteers through colorful posters on city walls.
