Rather than promising combat, this 1920 poster pitches a trade: enlistment in the Quartermaster Corps' construction division. During the war the Army built training camps, depots, and roads at great speed, and the poster reflects the peacetime need for men who could keep those facilities and the trucks and other vehicles that supplied them running. The notation at the bottom, which refers to the Adjutant General's Office and is dated March 22, 1920, suggests the design went through official War Department approval before printing. The subject headings also mention military education, a reminder that recruiters presented Army service as job training as much as military duty.
