A recruiting poster aimed at skilled workers, it invites mechanics and apprentices to join the Army's construction ranks and learn a trade during a one- or three-year enlistment. The Engineer Reproduction Plant at Washington Barracks, D.C., printed it in 1919, a year after the Armistice, when the Army still needed builders for its camps and facilities. The poster's pitch is practical: pay of $30 to $105 a month, free food, clothing, quarters and medical care, and an age range of 18 to 45. Its closing question, "Where else can you find such an opportunity?", shows how recruiters tried to make military service sound like a job with training attached.
