Dated 1910, this chromolithograph poster predates American entry into the First World War by several years, though the catalog later filed it under World War I recruiting. It was issued under the Adjutant General's Office, which handled Army recruiting in peacetime, and its wording, "Men wanted for the army," reflects the steady effort to fill the ranks of a small professional force. The subject headings also point to artillery, a branch that needed skilled, trained enlistees. Color lithography made posters like this inexpensive to print in quantity and easy to display in post offices and public buildings.
