The record for this color lithograph names hammers and snakes as its principal symbols, set under the title of the Comité Nacional of the CNT, the anarcho-syndicalist labor federation affiliated with the International Workingmen's Association (AIT). The CNT was one of the largest unions in Spain in the 1930s, and its propaganda office issued posters like this one during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), when Republican forces fought the Nationalist rebellion led by Francisco Franco. The record dates the piece only to those war years, so its exact date and intended audience are uncertain.
