Electric streetcars and a hotel front share the frame in this panoramic view of East Grand Avenue in Beloit, Wisconsin. Car No. 405 of the Beloit Traction Company sits at center, with part of Car No. 407 cut off at the right edge. Around 1908, electric streetcar lines like this one were a common feature of small American cities, carrying workers from factories and neighborhoods into downtown. Beloit, a manufacturing town on the Rock River, was one of many places where a hotel on a busy main street served as a gathering point for travelers and local residents.
