The Hotel Commodore stood at the corner of 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue, on Pershing Square beside Grand Central Terminal, which made it one of the most convenient addresses in the city for travelers. Irving Underhill, a New York photographer who copyrighted the view, made this record of the building around 1919, when the hotel was new. In those years Grand Central was among the busiest rail hubs in the country, and hotels clustered around it catered to commuters, out-of-town visitors and business travelers. The record's caption data is unverified, so details of the view itself are best checked against the original card.
