Broadway and 42nd Street was the site of the Hotel Knickerbocker, which opened in 1906 and quickly became one of the city's fashionable addresses. This c1907 photographic print carries a copyright credit to Joseph Byron, whose studio produced many views of New York buildings and street life in those years. The hotel's bar and dining rooms drew theatergoers and visiting celebrities, which explains why the building appears on a board devoted to taverns and saloons. The record relies on an older caption card, so its date and attributions should be read with some caution.
