Published in Philadelphia around 1871 by Duval & Hunter, this chromolithograph takes its title from the familiar phrase "Home sweet home" and shows a scene of rural domestic life. J.F. Queen made the print after a work by Weyngaerdt, and its copyright registration in 1871 places it early in a boom in color prints. Chromolithography had become cheaper and more refined by the 1870s, letting American publishers sell sentimental images of farm and village life to middle-class households. The print reflects the era's taste for pictures that celebrated the countryside as a place of comfort and family.
