Among the most familiar sentiments hung in American homes in the late 19th century, "Home sweet home" appears here as a color lithograph dated to about 1880. The Library of Congress holds two impressions: a black-and-white proof without text and a fully colored print that carries the lettering. Color lithography was inexpensive to reproduce in quantity, which made images like this a popular way for households to display domestic sentiment. The shelflist card associates the print with a firm called Muller, Co., but that attribution has not been verified.
