Girls are the subject of this chromolithograph, which takes its title from the nursery rhyme about a ladybug flying away. It was made after a painting by an artist named Anderson, adapted by G.G. Fish, and issued in New York by A. & C. Kaufmann in 1872 or 1873. Chromolithography let publishers sell affordable full-color reproductions of genre scenes, and sentimental images of childhood were among the most popular subjects for American homes at the time. The print's light, domestic mood reflects that taste for pictures of children at play.
