Few places in Pennsylvania carry as much Revolutionary War history as Brandywine Creek, where George Washington's Continental Army fought British forces under William Howe on September 11, 1777, a defeat that opened the road to Philadelphia. This view, titled *Battlefield at Brandywine*, centers on the creek itself and comes from the Detroit Publishing Company's large glass-negative series. The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad commissioned the work, and such views were likely meant to draw rail travelers to historic sites. The record dates the negative only tentatively to around 1892, so the exact year remains uncertain.
