This is the right-hand section of a larger panoramic view of the Ponce de Leon Hotel in St. Augustine, Florida, printed from a large glass negative on a mammoth plate. Its vertical orientation is unusual, since panoramas are usually wide, and the Library of Congress grouped it with other vertical sections of the same hotel. Henry Flagler built the Ponce de Leon in the late 1880s as the centerpiece of his resort development along Florida's east coast. Its Spanish Renaissance Revival design by architects John Carrère and Thomas Hastings helped set the style for Flagler's later hotels. The building still stands today as part of Flagler College.
