Ueno Park is the setting here, with a fountain in the grounds and the second national industrial exhibition, held there in 1881 (the Meiji 14 seal date). The three woodblock sheets are signed Hiroshige and engraved by Matsushima Seikichi. The exhibition was meant to showcase Japan's industrial and artistic output to the public, so the scene of visitors moving through the park also records how the event drew crowds.
