This wide triptych, titled *Ueno Shinobazu keiba no zu* ("Horse race in Ueno Park"), spreads across three sheets and shows a racecourse within Ueno Park in Tokyo. The sheets are signed by Yōshū Chikanobu as designer, and the engraving is credited to Hashimoto Naoyoshi, although the catalog record also lists Utagawa Hiroshige as creator. The record dates the scene to the 1880s, when Meiji-era Tokyo was adopting Western pastimes such as horse racing, and the catalog tags name military officers and women among the spectators. That mix of uniformed men and fashionable women makes the print a useful glimpse of the period's social change.
