Coaches pulling away from the front of Old Faithful Inn, bound for the Lake Hotel on Yellowstone Lake, show how visitors moved around the park in its early years. The inn had opened only recently, in 1904, the same year H.C. White Co. of North Bennington, Vermont, issued this stereo card. Travelers then covered the park's distances by horse-drawn stage on rough roads. Stereographs like this one were sold to people who could never make the trip, and a hand viewer turned the pair of images into a three-dimensional scene.
