Set a short walk from Old Faithful geyser, the inn opened in 1904 with a tall lobby of logs and timber, designed by Robert Reamer to blend into the wild landscape. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for its scenic views of the American West, made this photograph around 1905, when most visitors still reached the park by rail to Gardiner or Cinnabar and then by horse-drawn coach. The caption card lists carriages among its subjects, so the vehicles gathered near the building are part of the story, not just background.
