A residence at 1123 Woodward Avenue, home of Mrs. C.L. Stephens, is the subject of this 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative. Woodward was one of Detroit's principal north-south streets, and in the early twentieth century it was lined with substantial houses belonging to the city's business and professional families. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made the negative, documented the city's streets, buildings and residences in large numbers for commercial sale. The plate, numbered 043483 in the company's series, came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
