Broadway, the main commercial street of Saratoga Springs, stretches east in this view, recorded on an 8 by 10 inch glass plate negative. The town had been a fashionable spa since the early 1800s, when visitors came for its mineral waters and filled the hotels, boarding houses, and shops along the street. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this negative between 1900 and 1910, sold views of towns and resorts across the country, and the catalog number on the glass links it to that output. The plate was given to the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
