Shot as an 8 by 10 inch glass negative, this view of North Broadway in Saratoga Springs, New York, dates from sometime between 1900 and 1915, when the town was a popular summer destination known for its mineral springs and grand hotels. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold travel views to tourists and print buyers, produced many images of resort towns and their main streets, so this scene shows how a busy commercial thoroughfare looked to visitors of that era. The plate reached the Library of Congress through a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
