The United States Hotel on Broadway was one of the large resort hotels in Saratoga Springs, New York, a town that drew wealthy visitors through the 19th and early 20th centuries for its mineral springs, racing, and social season. This 8 x 10 inch glass negative comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers documented American towns, resorts, and streetscapes in the early 1900s. Street views like this one capture the busy hotel frontage and the traffic of a fashionable summer town just before automobiles began to reshape such thoroughfares.
