The Flatiron Building, with its narrow triangular wedge pointing into the intersection at Broadway and Fifth Avenue, is the subject here, caught at a street corner after a snowfall. Completed in 1902, the steel-framed tower was among the first of New York's large skyscrapers and drew crowds who gathered to watch the wind swirl around its sharp prow. This glass negative came from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its wide view of American cities and landscapes around the turn of the twentieth century. The date of 1905 is a estimate, but the image shows the building as it looked in the early years of its fame.
