Unlike most of the temporary buildings put up for the 1901 Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, the New York State Building survived the fair and still stands in Delaware Park, where it now houses a historical museum beside the park's lake. The exposition ran from May to November 1901, and the state pavilions were among its larger showpieces. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative, photographed American scenery and sites for sale to travelers, and its views of the fairgrounds capture a season that ended with the assassination of President William McKinley at the exposition in September.
