Taken on February 15, 1923, this glass negative shows a group of war veterans, a scene that would have been common across the country about four years after the armistice ended World War I. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that recorded much of Washington life in the early twentieth century, made the image, and its glass plates were later given to the Library of Congress by Herbert A. French in 1947. The title comes from the studio's own notes and has not been independently verified, so the identity of the men pictured remains uncertain. Streaks and blemishes across the plate are signs of natural deterioration in the original coatings, and they are worth noticing when you examine the image.
