A group of people in Central America is the subject of this 1922 glass negative, though the title comes from unverified notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, so the place and sitters remain uncertain. The company, based in Washington, D.C., made many images of travel, events and people in the early twentieth century, and much of its work was intended for newspapers and magazines. Glass negatives of this age often show streaks and surface marks from the slow decay of their coatings, and such flaws may be visible here. The plate came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947.
