A group of people from Central America, as the title has it, was captured on a glass negative dated February 9, 1923. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio active in the early twentieth century, made many images like this, and its negatives were later given to the Library of Congress. The record credits Herbert A. French with a gift of the collection in 1947. The title comes from data the company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and has not been verified, so the identities of the group and the occasion remain uncertain. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes, which come from the natural breakdown of the original coatings on the glass.
