This glass negative captures a group of National Woman's Party members on October 25, 1922, according to the title the National Photo Company wrote on the negative sleeve, which the Library of Congress lists as unverified. The party grew out of the suffrage movement in 1916, and after the 19th Amendment gave women the vote in 1920, its members turned to campaigning for an equal rights amendment to the Constitution. The National Photo Company worked in Washington, D.C., recording political and civic life there in the early twentieth century. Note the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from the natural breakdown of the original coating rather than from the scene itself.
