Crowds at the Concord State Fair in Concord, New Hampshire, watched a balloon rise over the fairgrounds in this view, dated around 1901. Balloon ascents were a popular fair attraction at the time, when aeronauts drew paying spectators with the sight of a basket leaving the ground. The print was copyrighted by W.G.C. Kimball of Concord, a local photographer whose work recorded everyday events in the city. The date and attribution come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified.
