Lincoln's sport phaeton, bodied by the coachbuilder Locke, is a showroom-style advertisement from the years between 1927 and 1934, when Lincoln sold its cars as high-end chassis that buyers could have dressed in custom bodywork. The open, low-slung body with its folding top reflects the taste for sporty convertibles among wealthy motorists of that period. Printed in color halftone, the picture was made to appeal to magazine readers who could afford a car of this caliber. It is a useful record of how automakers marketed luxury and style during the late 1920s and early 1930s.
