This color halftone advertisement promotes the new Ford roadster, a two-seat open car. Ford introduced the Model A in late 1927 to replace the long-running Model T, and the roadster, often fitted with an open rumble seat, was one of its most popular body styles for buyers who wanted a sporty car for weekends and touring. Halftone printing let advertisers reproduce color illustrations in magazines, so the car could be shown in bright, fresh tones. The piece dates from the years just before and after the 1929 crash, when automakers worked hard to make new models look appealing to a cautious public.
