A 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 convertible anchors this full-color advertisement, with a man, a woman, and two children gathered on a beach beside the car. The page ran in *Look*, the mass-circulation illustrated weekly, in its July 2, 1958 issue. It shows how automakers sold cars in the late 1950s, as a family vehicle for summer leisure rather than just basic transportation. The halftone reproduction, built from separate color printing plates, gives the scene the soft, saturated tones typical of magazine advertising of the period.
