A 1958 Oldsmobile shares this full-page color advertisement with a bridge, a pairing that presents the car as part of the open road. The ad appeared on page 12 of the February 18, 1958, issue of *Look*, a large-circulation general-interest magazine that carried many color automobile advertisements in the 1950s. Those ads, often produced by General Motors divisions such as Oldsmobile, were a major part of the postwar push to sell new models through glossy, aspirational imagery. The halftone color printing lets the car's paint and chrome stand out, which was the point of the layout.
