Printed in Petrograd in 1917, this color lithograph carries the slogan "Zaëm svobody" ("Loan of Freedom") alongside "Voina do pobedy" ("War to Victory"), with the artist credited as P. Buchkin. The Freedom Loan was a war bond campaign launched by the Provisional Government after the February Revolution, when officials sought public money to keep Russia fighting in World War I. Posters like this one were meant to link buying bonds with the new political freedoms of 1917 and with national duty. The subject heading also points to the economic side of the war, since such loans were one way the government financed its army.
