This 1917 Austrian lithograph promotes the seventh war loan, billed in its title as a "Milliarden" bond, and pairs it with an appeal for "millionen" in war-loan insurance. It shows mothers, children and older people, suggesting that subscribing protected the households the state was asking citizens to support. Printed in Innsbruck by the Wagner'sche university printing house, with a design credited to W. Kühn, it reflects how Austria-Hungary financed its war through repeated public loans. By 1917 the war had dragged on for nearly three years, and posters like this one were a principal way the government reached ordinary families.
