Unlike the illustrated recruiting posters of the period, this lithograph carries only text: a plain appeal that reads "More men are wanted for his majesty's army" above the line "Men are wanted, enlist now." It was issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, a body set up in 1915 to press men to volunteer as the British army's losses mounted and the country moved toward conscription. The poster is numbered 33 in its series, and its blunt wording shows how the government relied on direct, repeated calls to duty rather than decorative imagery.
