This poster sets its appeal apart by asking for "handymen," men with practical trades rather than seafaring backgrounds, to serve in the Royal Naval Division. The division was formed in 1914 from naval reservists and volunteers, and it went on to fight at Gallipoli in 1915 and later on the Western Front. Printed in London by His Majesty's Printers, the color halftone reflects Britain's need for recruits in the first year of the war, when enlistment posters used direct, bold wording to reach men in many different occupations.
